States File Amended Complaint Seeking to Block USDA SNAP Activity
The U.S. Department of Agriculture should be blocked from illegally sharing Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) data because it threatens state funding and programs, attorneys general from California, New York and other states said in an amended complaint Monday (see 2509190015).

Federal legislation like the Privacy Act, Computer Matching and Privacy Protection Act, Paperwork Reduction Act and E-Government Act “strictly limits” the use and sharing of personal data collected via SNAP, said the filing with the U.S. District Court for Northern California (case 3:25-cv-06310). Forced disclosure of the data will hurt SNAP participation, disaster response, school lunch programs, safety net programs and public welfare, the states said.
