Imgur is owned by MediaLab, which the watchdog began investigating in March over its use of children's information and approach to age assurance (see 2503030001). The ICO notified MediaLab earlier this month that it intended to impose a fine, said Tim Capel, interim executive director of regulatory supervision. The findings are provisional, he added.

The ICO has "been clear that exiting the UK does not allow an organisation to avoid responsibility for any prior infringement of data protection law, and our investigation remains ongoing," Capel added.
