Plaintiffs Drop Ad Platform Data and Surveillance Suit Against Microsoft

Plaintiffs who sued Microsoft for tracking, recording and selling of users’ internet activity voluntarily dismissed their complaint Thursday. They gave no reason for their action.

Case 2:25-cv-00570 began in April when the group of plaintiffs said Microsoft uses its advertising and analytics platform to track and indefinitely record the internet activity and personally identifiable information (PII) of millions of Americans, and that it profits from the information (see 2504030021).

In June, Microsoft sought to dismiss the lawsuit, arguing the plaintiffs were attempting to stretch common-law privacy and wiretap laws beyond their original purview (see 2506240045).
