SIIA Urges Congress to Pursue AI Frontier Model Bill as States Advance Proposals

Congress should pass legislation that would start an assessment of the national security and public safety risks associated with AI frontier models, the Software & Information Industry Association said in a post Friday.

Paul Lekas, SIIA executive vice president of global public policy, cited issues with frontier model regulations in California, which just enacted the Frontier Artificial Intelligence Act (SB-53), and New York, which is awaiting the governor’s signature on the Responsible AI Safety and Education Act (AB-6453).

Lekas said Congress’ bill should establish “clear baseline requirements for frontier AI model developers around disclosure, transparency, testing and evaluation, and governance.”
