Cyber Group: More Than 53,000 Public Sector Passwords Exposed Since 2024
More than 53,000 passwords owned by federal and state government employees have been shared on the dark web and other public platforms since 2024, NordPass said in a study released Tuesday.

The study found passwords linked to civil servants at the federal, state and local levels. It included 15,272 Department of State passwords, 1,897 Department of Defense passwords, 1,706 U.S. Army and 1,331 Department of Veterans Affairs. Employees for the state of Michigan accounted for 3,161 passwords, and Washington, D.C., workers were linked to 562 passwords.
