New York, New Jersey AGs Urge White House to Drop AI Preemption Plans

The White House should abandon plans to issue an executive order attempting to block states from regulating AI, New York Attorney General Letita James (D) and New Jersey AG Matt Platkin (D) said during a news conference Thursday (see 2512080056).

James and Platkin appeared at an event hosted by the Leadership Conference. James said she supports “reasonable” companies having "responsible guardrails” at the federal and state levels. An executive order preventing states from enforcing their regulations would be the “wrong direction,” she said.

No one is opposed to innovation, said Platkin: Both Republicans and Democrats at the federal and state level oppose the president blocking states through the “stroke of a pen.” President Donald Trump doesn’t want “one rule,” as stated in support of his EO, he said: Trump wants “no rules.”
