Canadian Privacy Commissioner Philippe Dufresne was elected Friday as chair of the Global Privacy Assembly, replacing Borislav Bozhinov, chairman of the Bulgarian Commission of Personal Data Protection. He's the first Canadian chair of the group.
Kara Williams was named counsel at the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC), she announced in a LinkedIn post Wednesday. Williams finished a law fellowship at EPIC last month and previously held an internship there as a law clerk.
TechNet named Mike Ward its senior vice president of federal policy and government relations Wednesday. Ward previously was a vice president at TechNet before leaving to work in senior public policy roles at Amazon.
Electronic Frontier Foundation Executive Director Cindy Cohn will step down by mid-2026 after 25 years in several roles, EFF announced Tuesday. Cohn was the executive director for a decade.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) appointed Jill Hamer to the California Privacy Protection Agency Board, the governor announced Tuesday. Hamer replaces Jeffrey Worthe, who was appointed to the California High Speed Rail Authority Board.
Now that the AI Action Plan has been released, Dean Ball is leaving the role of senior policy adviser for AI and emerging technology at the White House's Office of Science and Technology Policy, he announced on LinkedIn last week. Ball will serve as a senior fellow at the think tank Foundation for American Innovation, and will resume writing for his newsletter Hyperdimensional. He joined the White House in April (see 2504180034).
Kyle Kessler joined marketing automation platform Klaviyo, where she will lead legal privacy and data strategy as senior director of privacy, she announced on LinkedIn Tuesday. Kessler was previously a privacy and cybersecurity attorney for Womble Bond, Orrick and the retailer Forever 21.
Tatiana Rice has become senior director of U.S. legislation at the Future of Privacy Forum (FPF), she announced on LinkedIn Monday. Keir Lamont held the role previously (see 2508040035). Rice has had several roles at FPF, including policy counsel, senior counsel and director.
